THIS A. UBERTI 1874 SHARPS RIFLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
The Uberti 1874 Sharps Rifle is a classic single-shot falling-block rifle patterned after the original 19th-century Sharps buffalo rifles. Uberti’s reproductions are well regarded for their fit, finish, and historical authenticity, especially among black-powder cartridge shooters and long-range iron-sight enthusiasts. The .45-70 Government chambering is by far the most practical choice because ammunition, brass, bullets, and loading data are much easier to find than .45-90 or .45-110.
A typical Uberti 1874 Sharps in .45-70 features:
- Falling-block single-shot action
- Double set triggers on many models
- Steel receiver with case-hardening
- Traditional sights
- Weight around 12–14 lbs depending on barrel length/configuration
One reason these rifles are so popular is the combination of:
- Excellent mechanical accuracy
- Manageable recoil in the heavy rifle platform
- Historical appeal
- Compatibility with both black powder and many standard-pressure smokeless .45-70 loads (always follow Uberti guidance and load data carefully).
The rifle became especially famous from the movie Quigley Down Under, where a Sharps rifle chambered in .45-110 was used. Uberti even produced “Down Under” variants inspired by that rifle. Many shooters still prefer .45-70 because it’s dramatically cheaper and easier to shoot regularly.
